Brenda Green Houston, beloved retired educator, real estate entrepreneur, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and niece, passed away on November 05, 2024 at the age of 82. She was a lifelong member of Moody Temple CME Church and an active participant in multiple service organizations.
Brenda was born to the late Louis, Sr and Ada Marable on January 31, 1942 in Fairfield, Alabama. She was brought up in the church and attended Moody Temple CME Church where as she would say, "I did everything in the church but preach." She served faithfully as Director of Christian Education, Steward, and an Active Steward.
Brenda's passion for education and community service left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Being an exceptional student, she first attended Fairfield Industrial High School, but transferred to Western Olin High School where she became the Salutatorian of her 1960 graduating class.
Brenda continued her academic pursuits at Miles College where she obtained her degree in chemistry in 1964. She began her teaching career in the Clanton School System in 1966. Before accepting a teaching position with Fairfield City Schools in 1970, Brenda met and married Lee Albert Green, Sr. As a working wife and mother, she served diligently as a science teacher, athletic booster, Red Cross Club Advisor, and Student Advisor. She retired after twenty-six years of service and began her second career as a full-time real estate agent.
She took pride in assisting former students realize their dream of home ownership. She was the proud co-owner of the first Black female led Century 21 real estate office in Alabama. Her other accomplishments included Diamond Federated Club, which provided college scholarships to participants through their Debutante program. Brenda served two terms as Chapter President.
Her dedication to helping others and her entrepreneurial spirit will be remembered by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched. Brenda remarried Mr. Leroy Houston in 2001 and fully retired soon after. They enjoyed retirement by traveling and remained married until his death in 2020.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Louis Jr., and aunts Annie Edwards and Josie
Pearson.
Brenda is survived by her four children, Frankie (Joseph, Sr.), Cynthia, Lee (Kimberly), and LaShandra; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Jr., Greg, Stephanie (Damien), Tiffany (Marcus, Sr.), Brittany, Breanna, and Lauryn; six great-grandchildren, Justiny, Justin, Jaiden, Marcus, Jr., Xavier, and Elijah; her niece, Vivian "Niecey" Jones, and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends. Brenda's legacy of love, service, and resilience will continue to inspire those who knew her.
