Mrs. Bina Marie Hammond Merriweather, of Birmingham, Alabama entered eternal glory on February 20, 2015. Her journey of life included being the Lord's servant and leaving many memories, integrity, grace, and above all unconditional love. She served as a North Central Alabama Conference United Methodist Minister's wife for thirty-five years. She was a choir member at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Mrs. Merriweather also provided numerous support and services to the community to include assisting and helping the elderly, providing meals and financial assistance to those in need.
Mrs. Merriweather was born to the late Martha Jane Hammond and the late Henry Hammond on December 17, 1924 in Latanier, Louisiana. Her family is a member of the Cherokee Tribe of N.E. Alabama.
Mrs. Merriweather grew up in Alexandria, Louisiana and attended Peabody High School. She also completed studies with the United Methodist Church at Birmingham Southern College and became a Lay Speaker.
She united in matrimony with Rev. James N. Merriweather, Sr. Her memories and love will always be experienced by her children: Veronica Teresa Smith (Willie L.), Valeria J. Jackson, J.D., Vera D. Larry, James N. Merriweather, Jr. (Alice), Norman Merriweather (Kay) and Phillip R. Merriweather. Eight sisters and brothers preceded her in death. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and a sister-in-law, Helen Merriweather. She was further blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1500 North 6th Avenue, Birmingham, AL 35203, with burial in Forest Crest Cemetery. Family Hour will be held Friday, February 27, 2015 from 4:00 until 5:30 P.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel. Smith & Gaston Southside direcitng.
