August 25, 1931 – April 13, 2025
Bill Curry, Sr. was born on August 25, 1931 to Burl Curry and Annie Louise Cannon in Wilcox County, Alabama.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Little Rock Baptist Church in Camden, Alabama and later moved to Birmingham, Alabama with his family. It is here where he meet the love of his life, the late Ruthie Louise Ellis. They were married for 48 years and their union was blessed with six children. Bill and Ruthie ran two successful businesses in Birmingham (Curry's Beauty Salon and Curry Lawn Care Services). Mr. Curry was also a faithful employee of U. S. Pipe and Foundry for 41 years. He later joined Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his son, the late Rev. Bill Curry, Jr.
After retirement, he continued to work on his passion for lawn care until his passing.
Mr. Curry was affectionately referred to by his family as "Curry in a Hurry, Don't Worry" because he was consistent dependable and had such a caring heart.
He was loved by al who met him and his energy and million-dollar smile was undeniable. He never met a stranger, loved to sing and was overwhelmingly charismatic.
Mr. Curry was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthie Curry; son, Bill Curry, Jr.; brother, David Curry; and two sisters, Carlene Henry and Olivia Wilson.
He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy: two brothers, Paul (Dorothy) Curry and Emrose (Dorothy) Curry; two daughters, Dr. Vernessa Elaine Curry and Rosalind Faye Curry; three sons, Forrest Curry, Roland (SaKeynia) Curry, and Gary (Barbara) Curry; 17 grandchildren, Shalisha Curry, Aaron Curry, April Curry, Kenya (Robert) Carroll, Edmund Curry, Shaveh (Stephen) Hogan, Roman (Chelsea) Salery, Sheldon (Amina) Curry, Adrienne (Andy) Laguerre, Brian Salery, Brandon Curry, Janaya Curry, Amira Carter-Perkins, Azurrea Curry, Joshawa Honeycutt-Curry, Roland Curry, Jr. and Divaunie Curry; 45 great grandchldren; and three great-great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel with burial at Zion Memorial Gardens.
