Bettye Anne Watkins, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and faithful servant of God, peacefully went to be with the Lord on October 15, 2026.
Born on June 17, 1946, Bettye was raised in Fairfield, Alabama, the cherished daughter of the late Rosel Watkins, Sr. and Carrie Allen Watkins. At an early age, she confessed her faith, obeyed the Gospel, and was baptized into the Church of Christ under the ministry of her uncle, the late Brother H. B. Watkins. Faith remained the cornerstone of her life, and she served as a member of the Fairfield/Belview Heights Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Al Morton, Sr.
Bettye was a proud graduate of Fairfield Industrial High School, Class of 1964. She continued her education at Miles College, where she brought energy and pride to the college band as a majorette, before graduating from Booker T. Washington Business School. Upon completing her studies, she embarked on a fulfilling career with Southwestern Bell, which later became BellSouth and eventually AT&T. She retired after many years of loyal and dedicated service as a telecommunications worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosel Watkins, Sr. and Carrie Allen Watkins; her brothers, Rosel Watkins, Jr. and Nathaniel Watkins; her sisters, Pearline Watkins and Patricia Cunningham; and her beloved niece, Bridget Cunningham.
Bettye’s memory and legacy of love will forever be cherished by her devoted son, Jarvis Watkins, and his wife, Angela, of Helena, AL; her treasured grandchildren, Morgan and Jarvis II; her loving sister, Linda Jo Watkins of Atlanta, GA; her beloved nieces, Joselyn, Demetria (Tony), and Kimberly (Robert), all of Birmingham, AL; along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Bettye will be deeply missed, but her faith, warmth, and vibrant spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
