Mrs. Bessie K. Lawrence, age 90, transitioned from her earthly home to eternal home, March 20, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Emaline Kimbrough, ex-husband, Earnest E. Lawrence, Sr., her youngest son, Kelvin Lawrence, four sisters, Ella Evans, Erma Wright, Claudia Brown, Claudette Kimbrough and two brothers, Roosevelt and Leon Kimbrough.
She was a graduate of A. H. Parker High School and honors graduate of Miles College, Class of 1947. Upon graduation from Miles College she returned to her Beloved A. H. Parker High School as a member of the Science Department. She was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church until her health declined.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Earnest E. Lawrence, Jr., Dr. Michael J. Lawrence (Birmingham); granddaughters, Phander Jenay Lawrence (Charlotte, NC), Monique Lawrence (Atlanta, GA), Jasmine K. Daniels, Mariah N. Daniels (Birmingham); great granddaughters, Alaiza Jones and Sienna Marie Daniels. Four brothers, Dr. Robert L. Kimbrough (The Village, FL), Cleveland Kimbrough (Carbondale, IL), Rev. Willie Kimbrough (Marilyn) (Detroit, MI), Cornell Kimbrough (Audrey) (Albany, GA); one brother-in-law, West Evans (San Francisco, CA); several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel (102 - 6th Avenue S.W.). The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (708 - First Street South). Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
