B. N. Cephus, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Friday, December 25, 2015. He was an active member of St. John A.M.E. Church and retired from the Birmingham City School System as Principal of Council Elementary School. B. N. Cephus was a product of the Tuscaloosa, Alabama School System. After completing Industrial High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama A&M University, a certificate in Elementary Education from Miles College, and a Masters degree in Education from Alabama A&M University. B. N. Cephus was a member of several community and civic organizations, including the Local, State and National Educational Associations, member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Trustee Emeritus-St. John A.M.E. Church, active member of the Alabama A&M Alumni Association, and the Alabama A&M Booster Club.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John A.M.E. Church, 708 - 15th Street North, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Pegues Cephus, brother, Emory Cephus and sister, Elizabeth Fail. Those left behind to cherish his memory are: two daughters, Dr. Cheryl Cephus Vickers and Felicia Cephus Turnley of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two granddaughters, Alexandria and Ariel Turnley; two brothers, Johnie Cephus (Louise) and Norman Cephus (Eloise); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
