Austin Holifield, Jr. was born to the late Reverend Austin Holyfield, Sr. and Sarah Jane Gibbons Holyfield. He was the ninth of twelve children born to this union and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. His siblings included eight brothers: Matthew Holyfield, William Holyfield, Calloway Holyfield, R.C. Holyfield, Samuel Holyfield, J.P. Holyfield, Jacob Holyfield, and Esau Holyfield; and three sisters: Willie P. Wood, Bertha Robinson, and Frances Robinson.

Austin attended the historic Mount Sinai School for Black students in Prattville, Alabama, where he began building the strong values of perseverance, service, and faith that would guide him throughout his life.

A proud patriot, Austin honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. In recognition of his courage and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart, a testament to his dedication and commitment to protecting the freedoms of others.

Austin was deeply devoted to serving his church and community. He faithfully served as a Deacon at Sardis Missionary Baptist Church and generously volunteered his time at the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church Outreach Center. His compassionate spirit, servant’s heart, and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved eldest son, Reginald Holifield; his parents, Reverend Austin Holyfield, Sr. and Sarah Jane Gibbons Holyfield; seven brothers, Matthew Holyfield, William Holyfield, Calloway Holyfield, R.C. Holyfield, Samuel Holyfield, J.P. Holyfield, and Jacob Holyfield; and three sisters, Willie P. Wood, Bertha Robinson, and Frances Robinson.

Though he has departed this earthly life, Austin's legacy of faith, service, courage, and love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
