Mr. Alphonso Ransaw, a son, a friend, a husband, a father, and grandfather, departed peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 24, 2018, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born July 14, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama. A supportive father, born with a loving and generous heart that nurtured 3 generations of children, was truly a gift of love to those who knew him.
He began his Christian education at New Hope Baptist Church where he joined the membership at an early age. His formative education was received through the Birmingham City School System. However, he was molded under the loving hands of his late mother, Lucille Ransaw and father James Ransaw. He attended Industrial High School (now Parker High school).
Mr. Ransaw honorably served in the Unites States Navy during WWII where he received the Asiatic-Pacific Victory Medal. Notably, WWII Veterans were the first to serve in the nuclear age and American POWs were employed in the clean-up of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, thus becoming the first "atomic vets." He worked most of his civilian career at US Steel, as a machinist supervisor, in the nail shop until retirement.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, De'Andre Pierre Ransaw and Christopher Sean Ransaw.
Mr. Ransaw now joins his loving wife of 72 years, Beatrice Ransaw, and leaves to cherish his beloved three children, Alphonso Ransaw Jr. (Mary), Sandra Lindsay, and Mark Ransaw; a host of great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Remembering his kindnesses and cherishing his memory are four grandchildren, Nicole Pate (Travis), George Lindsay (Romona), April Bohra (Tarun) and Tarji McCray (Brandon) and 8 great-great grandchildren, Asia McIntosh, Scott McIntosh, Nathan McIntosh, Tiana Lindsay, Roddrice Ransaw, George Lindsay, Chris Lindsay, and Bellamy Bohra.
