Allean Freeman Gray, affectionately known as Granny, was born January 23, 1935, to the late Frasier Freeman and Laura Rice in Bellamy (Sumter County), Alabama. She was the first child of two children.

She confessed Christ at Thirgood Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

She attended Lincoln Elementary School and Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

Allean was married to the late Eugene Gray and was the mother of three children, Leon, Jacqueline (James, Jr.) Pruitt and Holly Gray (Tom Simmon). Throughout her entire lifespan, she resided in Birmingham, Alabama. Mrs. Gray was ultimately a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom that spent the majority of her time taking care of her children. Later on in life, she was passionate about taking care of her grandchildren. Plus, she loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, Jada, Jai, Isidore, Gregory, Corey, Martise and Ashley. Also, she enjoyed her loving brother, William (Carolyn) Stroud, as well. Easy going, best describes Mrs. Gray, but she was also a very sweet and giving soul, who loved traveling and site-seeing, whether from her chair on the porch, from the window in her home or simply sitting in the car. Her end game was always to see what was going on around her and when nothing peeked her interest, she would say, "ain't nothing shaking over here".

At times, when she wasn't getting in a good nap, she could even be heard sounding off with the most contagious laugh and brighten up the day. Occasionally, she was known to be the life of the party, but whenever she wanted to have a little fun and listen to some music, one of her favorite pastimes was to dance with her partners in crime, Jada and Joi. She especially enjoyed her daughter's attention, too. Jacqueline was her caretaker and dedicated much of herself and time until the very end at 3:32 p.m. on December 26, 2023. This is when she slipped away in the arms of her daughter to her heavenly home.
