Alan Everett
Rivers
August 23, 1954 – April 5, 2025
Alan Everett Rivers was born August 23, 1954 to Odell Anderson Rivers and Barbara Lee Richardson Rivers.
Alan was the eldest of five siblings.
At an early age he confessed his life to Christ and was baptized by Reverend Bratcher at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Zion City. He graduated from Phillips High school at the age of 16 years old in 1970. After graduation he attended Job Corp and learned the trade of a welder.
Alan was active in his church, a part of the Men's Usher Board, Men's Fellowship and was named "Man of the Year" in 2024. He was lighthearted, always caring and affectionally known as "Big Al". He was the oldest of his siblings and made sure his brothers and sisters were well cared for. He taught them how to drive, purchased vehicles for them and was always there to ensure all their needs were met. Alan was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. During football season, you could hear him for miles if his Cowboys were losing the game. Alan also loved the Horse track and Casinos and would travel to Montgomery and Mississippi with friends to enjoy his favorite pastime.
Alan retired from Meadow Craft (Plantation Patterns) after over 25 years of service as a Master Welder and also retired from the city of Birmingham as a Security Officer. He enjoyed his retirement years by traveling and joining the monthly Zoom calls with extended family members.
Alan died peacefully at his home in his sleep on April 5, 2025 at the age of 70. We loved him, but God gave him his wings in Heaven because He loved him best.
He is survived by his siblings: Gloria Rivers (Nicholas) Laster, John Rivers, Cheryl Rivers (Peter) Evans (VA), nieces and nephews: Julius Rivers Krishann McConico, Vinetra King (Christopher) Murphy, Kayla Harris (Eric) Morales (FL), Patrick (Bianca) Harris II (CA), Justin Davis, Justin Laster; one great-niece, Cydney Murphy and many cherished cousins and friends. Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Odell and Barbara Rivers and brother Victohr Rivers.
